This post will help you understand the basics of pattern shape and a Dolman adjustment!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>During our <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.belowthekowhai.nz\/dev\/product\/tio-trousers\/\">Tio Trouser sewing pattern<\/a> release, many of our Instagram followers spotted this gingham dolman top on one of my daughters &#8211; surprise surprise! Download your own <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.belowthekowhai.nz\/dev\/product\/kea-top\/\">Kea Top sewing pattern here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Use <strong>one size larger <\/strong>than you usually would to create this relaxed, baggy look!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. The Kea Top has a split in the back so it&#8217;s made of 2 pattern pieces. Our new Dolman Top will have a full back piece (instead of two). Measure the necklines around the front and back and check they&#8217;ll slip over your child&#8217;s head (it&#8217;s should if you&#8217;ve sized up like suggested!). <br><br>Remove 10mm (3\/8&#8243;) from the centre back edge and now use the back pattern piece as a &#8220;place on fold&#8221; to cut fabric out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Rotate the sleeve so the curve and corners touch the armscye of the front bodice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. Place space paper under the pattern and tape in place to redraw pattern lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. Draw new lines (shown as red) from the corner of the shoulder to the edge of the sleeve hem, along the edge of the sleeve hem, curve under the arm and meet to join at the existing hem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Check: The new shoulder seam should be <strong>higher<\/strong> than the original, and the new under arm seam should be <strong>lower<\/strong> than the original.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to sew an easy domlan top<\/h4>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.belowthekowhai.nz\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Kea-Top-Hack-fig-4.1-01.jpg\" alt=\"How to sew a dolman hack\" class=\"wp-image-29975\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.belowthekowhai.nz\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Kea-Top-Hack-fig-4.1-01.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dev.belowthekowhai.nz\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Kea-Top-Hack-fig-4.1-01-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev.belowthekowhai.nz\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Kea-Top-Hack-fig-4.1-01-416x277.jpg 416w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>8. With right sides together, sew the shoulder seams 10mm (3\/8&#8243;) from edge. Press seams open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9. With right sides together, sew the sides with a 10mm (3\/8&#8243;) seam allowance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Press seams open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11. Re-fold the sleeve hem memory fold and top stitch around sleeve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12. Fold under and sew hem as per tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.
